Risks of Breast Implant Revision

Risks of Breast Implant Revision
What are the risks of breast implant revision? What should I expect? These are commonly asked, understandable questions to have as a patient.  As a sought-after breast surgeon in Los Angeles, Dr. David Stoker is often faced with these questions.  He has published his experience on the topic and has performed over 1,000 breast procedures.  “Like any surgical procedure, there are risks,” he says. “But the risks of breast implant revision are typically outweighed by the benefits of restoring a natural appearance to the breasts.”

Dr. Stoker will be pleased to meet with you personally to discuss both the benefits and the risks of breast implant revision. Call him at (310) 300-1779 or set up a consultation online.

Dr. Stoker believes that it is important for patients to make informed decisions based on the facts.  In your consultation, he will help you to understand your best options and alternatives.

Recovery
Recovery from breast implant revision surgery generally involves mild discomfort and swift recovery. Dr. Stoker finds that most of his patients can return to their daily routines, including work, within only a few days. The exact length of recovery will depend on what type of surgery you had done for the revision. For example, having a breast lift performed at the same time of implant removal will also lengthen the expected recovery time.

Many times Dr. Stoker will recommend the use of a compression bra to help with the healing process. The compression bra is generally worn for two or more weeks after the procedure. Wearing the compression bra will help to minimize swelling. The bra will also keep the implants in place during the initial healing period.

Side effects that may occur during recovery include:

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Pain
  • Stiffness
  • Itching

Uncommon complications that are possible include:

  • Infection
  • Bleeding
  • Decreased nipple sensation
  • Asymmetry of the implant
  • Capsular contraction
  • Scarring

You may notice that the risks of breast implant revision are generally the same as those that were present with your initial breast implant surgery. In order to decrease the chances of these complications from arising, it is important that you closely follow all of the instructions provided by Dr. Stoker.

Why should I consider having Dr. Stoker perform my breast implant revision?
