Breast Reduction and Lift

Breast reduction and lift is a combination procedure for women who want to both reduce the size of their breasts as well as restore their breasts to a more youthful, perky appearance. The breast reduction and lift is one of the more popular reconstructive and cosmetic surgeries performed in the United States, according to Dr. David Stoker.  Aesthetic factors aside, the burden of large breasts can be very inconvenient and even painful during everyday activities. The discomfort and pain are what often lead women to Consult Dr. Stoker about a possible breast reduction.

Sometimes, an unintended consequence of breast reduction is a drooping appearance of the reduced breasts. For this reason, breast reduction and lift often have a close relationship. Another option Dr. Stoker’s patients are increasingly choosing is the laser breast reduction because it includes a breast lift.
Dr. Stoker will be happy to meet with you in person and discuss what might be best for your individual situation. Request a consultation online or just call Dr. Stoker’s office at (310) 300-1779 to start the process today.

Options for Breast Reduction:

  • Inverted- T (Anchor Scar)
The inverted-T scar is the most traditional of the incisions. This incision involves a scar around the areola, down the middle of the breast and across the length of the mammary fold. This approach is normally used for moderate to noticeably large breasts, especially if they contain a lot of excess skin.
  • Lollipop Scar
Dr. Stoker has a particular expertise in using the lollipop incision. Much like the anchor scar the incision is made around the circumference of the nipple and down the lower middle breast.  It does not include the transverse incision underneath the breast.  This incision is best used for patients with moderately sized breasts and reasonable skin elasticity.
  • Liposuction
Liposuction breast reduction utilizes small incisions that are located on the underside of the breast. The procedure will remove fat, but not glandular breast tissue, from the breast.  Because post-menopausal women have a higher proportion of fat, they are some of the best candidates for breast reduction.

Breast Lift:

The breast reduction and lift process may use the aforementioned incisions for reduction followed by these incisions, which specifically provide a lift:

  • Laser Lift
The laser lift is a technique that permits Dr. Stoker to lift the breast on the inside as well as the outside, greatly enhancing the amount of lift and the duration of the lift.
  • Crescent Lift
For patients needing only a small lift, primarily of the nipple position, the crescent lift is best. The incision includes a semicircular scar that is blended in with the upper part of the areola.
  • Circumareolar Lift
When the bottom portion of the breast does not require much lift, but the areola needs repositioning or resizing, a circumareolar lift is used.  As the name implies, the incision and resulting scar are placed around the perimeter of the areola.
The recovery time for breast reduction with lift is minimal. Patients are normally able to continue daily functions within days of the surgery. However, it does take about a month for the incisions to heal fully. The scar will gradually fade over the course of the first year.
